A Seminarian with St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ivukwa, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, Peter Andrew, has been killed by his kidnappers.
Andrew was abducted alongside a priest in the church, Rev. Fr. Peter Ekweli, on March 3.
Ekweli has since regained his freedom.
The spokesman for the state police command, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday in Benin City.
He said security operatives and local vigilantes rescued Ekweli in Amughe Community on Thursday.
The spokesman said: “Bush-combing efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the seminarian and apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
He recalled that one suspect was killed and four others arrested on the day of the abduction.
“Security forces are continuing operations to track down the fleeing kidnappers.
“The command condemns the killing of the seminarian and assures the public of its commitment to bringing all the perpetrators to justice,” he added.
