Guinea-Bissau’s Judicial Police (PJ) marked its 42nd anniversary with a historic announcement from President Úmaro Sissoco Embaló, who pledged a new national headquarters for the institution.

The announcement was made during a ceremony held on March 12, 2025, at the Bissau Royal Hotel.

The anniversary celebration was themed “The Judicial Police and the Challenges of Digital Transformation.”

President Embaló officially donated the former headquarters of the General Directorate of Contributions and Taxes to the Judicial Police and instructed the Minister of Finance to begin its immediate rehabilitation and redevelopment. The decision fulfills a long-standing demand for better infrastructure.

Dr. Domingos Monteiro Correia, PJ’s National Director, highlighted how the new facility would improve coordination, centralize operations, and create a more efficient working environment.

The announcement comes as the PJ intensifies its fight against drug trafficking.

As security forces continue to tighten controls, the new headquarters is expected to enhance the Judicial Police’s operational capacity in tackling these challenges.
