The Senegalese government is ramping up its efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking and counterfeiting through renewed actions by the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (ARP) and the National Brigade for the Fight Against Piracy and Counterfeiting.
On Tuesday, both agencies conducted a joint operation that led to the arrest of eight individuals involved in a counterfeit medicine trafficking network.
In addition, eight illegal warehouses were dismantled, resulting in the seizure of a large quantity of prohibited medications, including painkillers, anti-inflammatories, antihistamines, aphrodisiacs, and anabolic steroids in syrup form.
The customs administration reported that the value of counterfeit medicines seized between 2019 and 2021 amounted to nearly three billion CFA francs.
