in News

A devastating rainstorm has caused the collapse of classrooms at Mayigi Community Comprehensive High School in Ilase, Ipokia Local Government Area, Ogun State, resulting in the death of a student and injuries to several others.

The incident claimed the life of 14-year-old Timothy Amosun, a Junior Secondary School 3 student, and left five other learners, two teachers, a food vendor, and her seven-month-old child injured.

Governor Dapo Abiodun expressed his condolences to the victims and described the incident as a “rude shock and very pathetic to bear,” offering prayers for the deceased’s family.

The governor pledged that the state government would cover the medical expenses of the injured and has directed relevant agencies to transfer critically injured victims to specialist hospitals within and outside the state for comprehensive medical care.

Furthermore, he has instructed the Commissioner for Education to visit the victims’ families and the school to assess the damage and begin the process of rebuilding the destroyed structures.
