The Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Ltd. has started distributing tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep, to interested personnel.
This comes after the recent introduction of Bulk Stalker Engineering Limited to police personnel as part of a welfare programme initiated by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
“Regarding the Keke Napep initiative, the Police Cooperative is supplying to interested personnel,” a police source told SaharaReporters.
On March 16, SaharaReporters exclusively reported that a police wireless message dated March 12, 2025, from the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) overseeing the Police Cooperative Society in Lagos, informed all departments, commands, and units about the initiative through the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Ltd.
It identified the company as “suppliers of tricycle trucks, trike pick-up, TTI single cabin, tricycle taxis, trike taxi TP7, Trika ambulance on loan to interested members of the force at the rate of five million five hundred thousand naira (N5,500,000) only”.
It said that “monthly deduction will be ninety thousand naira (N90,000) only”, which is “to be paid within sixty (60) months”.
It noted that the “money will be deducted from recipient’s salary via IPPIS”.
“Forms will be made available by the company for collection at all cooperative shops mine. Treat as very important please,” it added.
Tricycles, commonly known as “Keke,” are widely used for commercial transportation in Nigeria. Allowing officers to acquire them on loan provides an additional source of income and improves their financial security.
The Nigeria Police Cooperative was established in 1977 with the aim of enhancing the welfare of its cooperators and their members.
According to information on the Force website, the Cooperative mission is to be a “leading Cooperative Movement providing a Distinctive and Innovative Welfare Services to our members and the Public through the Utilization of Modern day Internet Technology, Dedicated Professionals both within and outside the Force to deliver Qualitative Welfare Services to Members of the Society, and the general Public”.
It was established by “Force Order No. 130, to cater for the welfare needs of the Nigeria Police and their families. It is the largest Cooperative Society in Nigeria and Africa”.
