The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has extolled the virtues of women saying they are mothers of the nation and captains of industry.
The NDDC said this in a one day workshop organized to celebrate and uplift women in Cross River in alignment with the celebration of the International Women’s Day that holds annually on June 11.
Speaking during the event held on Thursday June 26, 2025 in Calabar, the State Director of NDDC, Dr. Daniel Ajunwa, emphasized the vital role women play in the society.
He highlighted the inclusive leadership style of the NDDC’s Managing Director and CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, noting his commitment to gender equality and empowerment.
“Our MD and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, is a man that loves to do things irrespective of gender differences,” Dr. Ajunwa said. “Today, we are celebrating the women, our mothers, the world over. The 11th of June every year is marked out to celebrate women.”

Dr. Ajunwa described women as the “mother of the nation,” “captains of industry,” and leaders in various fields including academia.
He acknowledged the overwhelming responsibilities women shoulder as mothers and leaders, underscoring the importance of recognizing and supporting their contributions.
The state director said the workshop in Cross River is part of a broader initiative by the NDDC to honour women across the Niger Delta region, noting that prior celebrations have been held in Imo and Bayelsa states, demonstrating NDDC’s commitment to fostering women empowerment throughout the region.
“This workshop aims not only to celebrate women but also to provide them with the opportunity to network and enhance their leadership skills, thus contributing to the socio-economic development of the state and beyond,” he stated.
The event featured presentations on gender equality and capacity development by different speakers, including Chief Magistrate Nkechi Usani and Kingsley Eworo.
