The Bauchi State Police Command has pledged a thorough investigation into a case of jungle justice that resulted in the death of a man identified simply as Peter and left another, 38-year-old Dokagk Danladi, severely injured.

The incident occurred on April 9 in the Lushi area of Bauchi State.

According to a statement released on Thursday, April 10, by the command’s spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, the two victims were accused of stealing a dog and were subsequently attacked by a mob of youths around 11:30 p.m. Danladi sustained multiple machete wounds to the head and was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for treatment. His companion, Peter, was found lifeless at the scene.

A team of detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer visited the scene of the attack to collect evidence and identify the individuals involved. Wakil confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and vowed that the command would leave no stone unturned in ensuring all those responsible are held accountable.

Condemning the attack, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, described the act as barbaric and a serious affront to the rule of law. He emphasized that no citizen has the right to take the law into their own hands, insisting that all suspects, regardless of the crime alleged, must be handed over to law enforcement authorities for due process.

Aliyu reassured residents that the police will not tolerate any form of mob justice and urged the public to remain calm as the investigation progresses. He affirmed the command’s commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that such unlawful acts are not repeated.
