BERLIN (CONVERSEER) – The Olympiastadion in Berlin is set to host one of the most anticipated NFL games in Europe this autumn, as the Indianapolis Colts take on the Atlanta Falcons on 9th November.
The upcoming clash, part of the league’s International Series, has ignited a frenzy among American football fans across Germany and beyond, with demand for tickets far exceeding supply.
As ticket sales opened, many fans were met with virtual waiting rooms reportedly exceeding 500,000 people.
With the stadium’s capacity at roughly 75,000, securing a seat has proven to be a significant challenge, underlining the sport’s growing popularity in Germany.
While the NFL has yet to confirm exact sales figures, the overwhelming demand mirrors previous events held in Munich and Frankfurt, which sold out in minutes.
Notably, the league’s debut in Germany in 2022 saw an estimated demand for three million tickets, according to organisers.
Tickets for the Berlin game range from around €80 to €400, with discounted prices available for children in certain sections, ensuring some level of accessibility for families.
However, concerns about ticket reselling have resurfaced, as many tickets quickly appeared on secondary market platforms such as Viagogo at inflated prices. Some listings reached as high as €2,917, raising alarms over potential scalping and access inequality.
Germany continues to establish itself as a vital growth market for the NFL. With an estimated 19 million fans across the country and around 3.6 million regularly following the league, the appetite for American football remains on a sharp upward trajectory.
NFL Germany’s managing director, Alexander Steinforth, reiterated this enthusiasm, stating that the country is now the league’s “leading growth market” outside the United States.
The Berlin showdown between the Colts and Falcons will mark the fifth regular-season game played in Germany under the NFL’s International Series banner.
Following the success of previous matches in Munich and Frankfurt, the league is expanding its reach by bringing the American football spectacle to the nation’s capital for the first time.
