ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – The Nigeria Police Force has successfully recovered several vehicles stolen within the country and trafficked to Ghana and Niger Republic, following coordinated international operations through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja.
In a major breakthrough, the Police recovered a 2020 Toyota Prado in Accra, Ghana. The vehicle, which belongs to a Federal Government agency in Nigeria, was stolen during a robbery in Abuja. With the assistance of INTERPOL NCB Accra, three suspects were arrested in connection with the theft and have since been arraigned in court in Accra. The vehicle has been returned to Nigeria and officially handed over to the concerned agency.
In another operation, a 2018 Toyota Hilux, also owned by a Federal Government agency, was tracked to Agadez in Niger Republic after it was stolen from a staff member of the agency in the Utako District of Abuja on 18th October 2024. INTERPOL NCB Abuja, in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Niamey, facilitated the recovery. The vehicle was handed over to the agency’s representative at the Nigeria-Niger border in Ilela/Konni.
In a related development, the Force disclosed it is finalising the recovery of two more vehicles—a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV and a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV. Both were stolen in Abuja in May 2025 and reportedly sold in Niamey, Niger Republic.
The Nigeria Police has urged citizens to register their vehicles on the Police Electronic Platforms to boost the chances of recovery in the event of theft.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the officers involved in the operations and reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to strengthening global policing partnerships.
He also appreciated the cooperation of INTERPOL NCB offices in Accra and Niamey, as well as the Nigerian High Commission in Accra for their support in the recovery efforts.
The Force continues to intensify efforts to curb cross-border crimes and enhance public safety through international collaboration.
