OHIO (CONVERSEER) – An Ohio baby, Thaddeus, is believed to have broken a record, becoming the “world’s oldest baby” after being born from an embryo frozen 30 years ago.
The Ohio couple, Linda and Tim Pierce had a son born over the weekend, but the embryo was frozen in 1994.
The baby, Thaddeus, was an “adopted embryo” from Linda Archerd, who created four embryos with her husband in 1994.
One is now her 30-year-old daughter, but the other three were left in storage.
Archerd, now 62, said she didn’t want to get rid of the embryos because they deserve life just like her daughter.
“Ms Archerd paid thousands of dollars a year for storage until she found a Christian embryo adoption agency, Nightlight Christian Adoptions, which runs a programme known as Snowflakes,” BBC reported.
Archerd said she initially planned on having all four embryos, but she divorced her husband sometime after having their daughter.
“I wanted to be a part of this baby’s life. And I wanted to know the adopting parents.”
According to CBS News, approximately 1.5 million embryos are being stored in the United States.
