Group distributes free sanitary pads to 8,000 women in Cross River

CALABAR (CONVERSEER) – PADBANK Mobile Outreach has joined the global community to mark World Humanitarian Day 2025 with the launch of its Padbank Community Project in Adiabo Community, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

According to the project coordinator, Archibong Bassey, the initiative is designed to address menstrual health and hygiene management challenges faced by women and girls, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.

Through the project, PADBANK Mobile Outreach aims to distribute 8,000 sanitary pads across communities in the state, respond to 36 key menstrual health and hygiene issues, and reach over 2,000 young women and girls, including those living with disabilities and special needs.

Speaking during the launch, Bassey, also the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Council, stressed that humanitarian service begins with recognising dignity, adding that menstrual health is a necessity, not a luxury.

“Every girl deserves to manage her period with confidence, safety, and pride. The Padbank Community Project is our contribution to restoring dignity and advancing gender equity,” she stated.

The group further called on government institutions, development partners, corporate sponsors, faith-based organisations, and individuals to support the project through funding, partnerships, and sponsorships.

The group emphasised that collaborative efforts are essential in sustaining the vision and ensuring no girl or woman is left behind due to lack of access to menstrual hygiene products.

As part of this year’s World Humanitarian Day observance, the organisation urged communities to remember that small acts of kindness, whether through donations, volunteering, or advocacy, can contribute significantly to building a more just and inclusive society.
