President Akufo-Addo sacks GRA boss, Ammishaddai, over old age

Rev. Dr Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah has been relieved of his duties as Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, GRA by President Nana Akufo-Addo, effective Wednesday, 27 March 2024.

Furthermore, the President also dissolved the GRA board without giving a reason. That being said, it is expected that President Akufo-Addo would appoint a new board soon.

According to reports on citinewsroom.com, Julie Essiam has been named Rev. Dr Owusu-Ansah’s replacement.

There has been increasing pressure to remove Dr Ammishaddai, as many groups claim he is too old to continue serving as a public official.

Concerned Citizens of Ghana vowed to stage protests in December 2023 in opposition to Dr Ammishaddai and his deputy, Ms Julie Essiam, continuing in their positions.

Moreover, his dismissal has been urged by the Minority in Parliament, which is led by MP Sam George of Ningo Prampram. Because Rev. Ammishaddai had served longer than the required 60 years, Mr George declared him persona non grata, implying that he had no legal agreement with the state.

Additionally, he advised businesses not to interact with Dr Ammishaddai, claiming that he was ineligible to bind the state to any agreements.
