Delta LG Council commends C'River-born NYSC member Martin Adie for outstanding service

L-R: Udu Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Vincent O. Oyibode, honours NYSC member Adie Martin Utsu for his outstanding environmental service in Delta State.

By Frank Ulom

ASABA (CONVERSEER) – The Udu Local Government Council in Delta State has commended a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Mr Adie Martin Utsu, for his exceptional performance and contributions to environmental development during his service year.

Adie hails from Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State.

In a letter dated 10th November 2025, and signed by the Executive Chairman of the Council, Olorogun Hon. Vincent O. Oyibode, the Council expressed appreciation for Mr Adie’s dedication, innovation, and leadership throughout his service in the Environmental Department.

According to the Council, Mr Adie, who served under the supervision of the environmental supervisor, introduced creative measures that enhanced the department’s activities and promoted community participation in environmental sustainability.

The statement described Mr Adie as an industrious and visionary corps member who exemplified how the NYSC scheme can drive meaningful transformation at the grassroots. “His ability to mobilise resources, engage schools, and promote lifelong skills demonstrates maturity and vision beyond his years,” the Council stated.

Highlighting his activities, the Council noted that on 28th May 2025, Mr Adie organised a lecture on “Environmental Hygiene: A Sustainable Development Goal,” in commemoration of the 2025 World Environment Day. The event, represented by the Council’s Vice Chairman, Mrs Omovie-Oputu Najite Omoejvwe, featured the donation of cleaning materials and a partnership with a non-governmental organisation on tree planting.

He also actively participated in several community clean-up exercises during the monthly sanitation programmes at Ubogo Market, Ujevwu Market, Express Junction, and the Express Road leading to Orhuwhorun Junction, alongside Council officials and community members.

On 9th July 2025, Mr Adie, a graduate of Geography and Environmental Science, and a student member of the Nigerian Environmental Society, wrote to the Council to raise awareness of environmental factors contributing to flooding within parts of Udu, including Ekete Link Road, Ekete Inland Junction, and Orhuwhorun Junction. His report prompted further investigations on 24th July 2025, during which more causes of the flooding were identified.

Following his recommendations, the Udu Local Government Council, in collaboration with the Delta State Ministry of Environment and DESOPADEC, held a four-day flood mitigation intervention programme starting on 13th August 2025. Mr Adie was actively involved in supervising and coordinating the exercise, which was later extended by one day due to project delays. The intervention significantly reduced flooding within the area.

The Council also praised Mr Adie for his cultural respect and patriotism towards the Udu Kingdom, particularly his recognition of His Royal Majesty, Engr. Michael Oghenevo Orugbo (Okporua I), and the wider Udu community.

In recognition of his meritorious service, Olorogun Oyibode recommended Mr Adie for further consideration and recognition, noting that his achievements stand as a model for other corps members serving across the country.
