The Special Adviser to the Governor of Cross River State on General Duties, Barr. Ekpenyong Akiba, on Tuesday marked his birthday with a gathering of media veterans and supporters of Governor Bassey Otu in Calabar, describing the event as a celebration of loyalty, service, and shared commitment to the state’s progress.

Speaking at the event held in his residence at Sancta Maria Estate, Akai Efa, Akiba paid glowing tribute to party leaders, media practitioners, and long-standing supporters of the governor, acknowledging their contributions over the years.

He particularly recognised respected political figures and media veterans who, according to him, have stood firmly with Governor Otu for decades, even during challenging times.

“In politics, there are unseen leaders, but we are fortunate to have visible and accessible leadership,” Akiba said, noting that the governor’s style of governance is rooted in service, contentment, and a deliberate pursuit of the people’s welfare.

The birthday celebration, tagged a “Media Veterans Cash Splash,” was organised primarily to appreciate media practitioners who have consistently supported the governor’s political journey. Akiba explained that the gesture was not a recent development tied to government office but part of a longstanding personal tradition of sharing and celebrating with supporters and friends.

“It is important to celebrate life,” he said. “We all know our dates of birth, but none of us knows the date of our departure. If you fail to celebrate your birthday, you may never have another opportunity to do so.”

He emphasised that service to humanity remains central to his philosophy, adding that “service to God can only be through service to man.”

Akiba highlighted what he described as significant achievements of Governor Otu’s administration, pointing to infrastructural renewal and revitalisation efforts across the state. He cited ongoing improvements at Tinapa, the Marina Resort, government lodges in the three senatorial districts, and upgrades to key public institutions and security facilities.

According to him, the administration has also strengthened security infrastructure across the state, including facilities for the police, navy, air force, civil defence, and fire service, contributing to improved safety and stability.

He further referenced road rehabilitation projects, restoration of public buildings, and urban renewal initiatives in Calabar and other parts of the state, describing the period as one of “restoration, recovery, and reconstruction.”

The celebrant reiterated that the gathering was intentionally designed to honour media veterans who have demonstrated consistency and loyalty over the years, as well as encourage the new generation of media supporters aligned with the governor’s vision.

He assured attendees that the appreciation initiative would continue in phases to ensure broader inclusion.

Akiba concluded by expressing optimism about the state’s political future, urging continued support for Governor Otu’s administration and its development agenda.

The event drew prominent media personalities, political stakeholders, and supporters from across the state.
