In a proactive move to restore harmony following recent tensions, Hon. Cyril James Omini, Member representing Yakurr 1 State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, has stepped in to ensure lasting peace between the two brother communities of Ugep and Idomi.
The lawmaker on Saturday paid a peace mission visit to Idomi Community, where he was received at the palace of the Obol Lopon of Idomi. During the visit, he held closed-door discussions with traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders on ways to de-escalate the misunderstanding and strengthen the long-standing bond between the two communities.
Speaking during the engagement, Hon. Omini emphasised that Ugep and Idomi remain one people with shared history and destiny, stressing that dialogue, mutual respect, and unity must prevail over conflict. He assured the people that the Cross River State House of Assembly and the Yakurr political leadership are committed to fostering peace and development across the constituency.

The Obol Lopon of Idomi, while welcoming the lawmaker, commended his timely intervention and pledged the community’s commitment to peace. He noted that traditional institutions in both Ugep and Idomi will collaborate to ensure that the incident does not recur.
Residents of both communities have lauded Hon. Omini’s peace initiative, describing it as a demonstration of responsive and people-oriented representation.
