The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Rashid Afegbua, on Thursday, hosted the newly posted Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. George Yomere, during a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters in Calabar.

The REC, accompanied by members of his team, stated that the visit was aimed at familiarising himself with the Command following his recent posting to Cross River State.

According to a statement by ASP Sunday Eitokpah, Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Police Command, Prof. Yomere, also briefed the Command on the ongoing voter registration exercise, noting that preparations were underway for the commencement of the third phase of the exercise across the state.

Prof. George further called for sustained collaboration and strengthened security arrangements by the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies ahead of the forthcoming elections. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process in the interest of democracy and public confidence.

In his response, CP Afegbua warmly welcomed the newly deployed REC and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to continued collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant stakeholders towards ensuring adequate security before, during, and after the elections.

The CP further assured the REC of the Command’s operational readiness and dedication to providing a safe, secure, and conducive environment that will enable residents of the state to participate freely in all electoral activities without fear, intimidation, or harassment.
