Young people in Cross River State may soon have a fresh opportunity to build successful careers as the state government launches a new vocational and entrepreneurship training programme.
The initiative, known as the Vocational Skills Entrepreneurship Programme (VOSEP), was unveiled by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Content.
The programme is designed to equip participants with practical vocational skills while also exposing them to entrepreneurship and business management training.
State officials said the initiative reflects the administration of Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s determination to reduce unemployment and encourage self-reliance among youths.
The first phase of the programme is expected to commence in May and continue until July 1, 2026, with training sessions scheduled to hold in different advanced training centres across the state.
Participants are expected to receive intensive practical training in specialised fields aimed at improving employability and encouraging innovation among young people.
Speaking during a media briefing, the Special Adviser on Local Content, Ambassador Awatt Caleb, said the programme would also connect successful trainees to intervention funds from both state and federal government agencies.
He said, “The governor approved this initiative because he believes the youths deserve opportunities that will help them become productive and financially independent.”
Awatt called on interested youths in Cross River State to embrace the programme, noting that the training would provide knowledge and experience necessary to succeed in today’s competitive economy.
