United States President Donald Trump on Monday called on Israel and Iran to halt their exchange of attacks immediately, issuing a direct appeal on his Truth Social platform as tensions between the two countries continued despite efforts to secure a ceasefire.
“Israel and Iran must immediately stop shooting,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
The appeal came amid continued hostilities between the two regional rivals, with both sides accusing each other of violating ceasefire arrangements and escalating military operations.
Trump also said indirect talks with Iran were continuing at a “rapid pace”, despite reports from an Iranian news outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guard Corps that Tehran was suspending the negotiations and exploring what it described as “other fronts” in the conflict.
The United States president separately said he had spoken with officials involved in efforts to reduce tensions and expressed confidence that hostilities could be brought to an end.
The latest escalation followed Iranian missile attacks on Israel, which Tehran said were in response to Israeli military operations.
Israel subsequently carried out strikes on targets in Iran, with explosions reported in Tehran and other areas, including at a petrochemical facility.
Trump’s intervention highlights the challenge of securing a lasting cessation of hostilities as military operations continue on both sides.
While the president has repeatedly called for restraint and a diplomatic resolution, neither Israel nor Iran has publicly indicated a willingness to halt military action entirely.
