It’s been 25 days today since bandits invaded Ogbomosho town in Oyo State and took away 46 teachers, student and children including a two-year-old child strapped to her mother’s back.
Despite assurances from the federal government, the state governor, Seyi Makinde, and various security agencies, the kidnapped victims continue to languish in the kidnappers’ den.
The victims were snatched on May 15 after the gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School in Ogbomoso, all located in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
While in captivity, tragedy struck as one of the teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was beheaded by the bandits, and a disturbing video of the killing circulated on social media.
In the video, the victim was tied up and compelled to speak before he was brutally murdered by the armed men.
After 25 days, it is still unclear when the victims would again breath the air of freedom and be reunited with their families and loved ones, as many Nigeria have become.skeptical of government’s ability secure the average citizen, or ensure criminals who engage in such acts are brought to book.
