Cross River community expresses concern over alleged unauthorised entry of Cameroonian forces

Danare community in Boki Local Government Area, Cross River State, was thrown into a state of panic earlier Tuesday following an incursion by over 200 officers of the Cameroonian Armed Forces.

According to Macualey Avenue, a Facebook user, the officers, who were reportedly armed and in full military uniform, entered the Nigerian territory without following established international boundary protocols.

The presence of foreign military personnel sparked widespread alarm among local residents, who feared for their safety and questioned the security implications of the breach.

Hon. Kingsley Mbia, former Vice Chairman of Boki Local Government Area, intervened promptly to manage the situation.

Upon arriving at the scene, Hon. Mbia successfully engaged the Cameroonian contingent, de-escalating tensions and ensuring the safety of the community members.

During the engagement, Hon. Mbia issued a caution to the officers, emphasising that the unauthorised entry of armed foreign military personnel into Nigerian soil is a violation of international boundary regulations.

He warned that such actions are unacceptable and cautioned against any future incursions, stressing the need to respect the sovereignty of Nigerian communities.

The situation has since been brought under control, with many calling for increased vigilance and a formal review of border security to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
