The Government of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has summoned traditional leaders and political leaders from Yakurr Local Government Area for an emergency meeting over the communal clash between Ugep and Idomi communities that has claimed the deaths of many and loss of properties.
According to a public service announcement by Erasmus Ekpang, PhD, Commissioner for Information on Wednesday, the leaders are to meet with the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, PhD, in the Deputy Governor’s Conference Room on Thursday, June 11, 2026, by 3pm.
According to the announcement, attendance is mandatory, and no one is required to send a representation.
The public service announcement with the reference number, “Our Ref: CR/MOI/AD/396/S.2/VOL.V/470,” read:
“I have the directives of His Excellency, Senator, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, PNIPR, Governor of Cross River State, to invite the following stakeholders from Ugep and Idomi Communities of Yakurr Local Government Area to a crucial meeting with the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, PhD, in the Deputy Governor’s Conference Room on Thursday, 11th June, 2026, by 3pm.
“Those invited are:
1. Honourable Members of the Cross River State House of Assembly from Yakurr I and II State Constituencies
2. Honourable Commissioner in the State Executive Council from Yakurr L.G.A.
3. The Executive Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area
