Super Eagles lose to Ronaldo’s Portugal in friendly

Nigeria’s Super Eagles fell to a 2-1 defeat in their international friendly against Portugal on Wednesday night.

Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye started between the sticks and had some moments before conceding in the 23rd minute through a Pedro Neto shot.

The Eagles, led by Malian coach Eric Chelle, fought back just minutes after when Akor Adams completed a fine run with a brilliant shot past the host goalkeeper.

Both sides struggled with a winner but it was Portugal who got the final goal through Francisco Conceição 25 minutes before the final whistle.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo was also in action for the hosts, who will now travel to North America where they will be participating in the FIFA 2026 World Cup.

Before the start of the game, Nigeria celebrated midfielder Alex Iwobi who made his 100th appearance for the Super Eagles. The home fans and players also gave him the Fulham star an ovation.

Wilfred Ndidi, Tochukwu Nnadi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Christian Akpan, Moses Simon, and others all also featured in the game.
