The United States and Iran have reached a peace deal to end their nearly four-month war, with both sides declaring the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Sunday.

In a post on X, Sharif said: “Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”

He added that the official signing ceremony will take place on Friday, 19 June, in Switzerland.

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed shortly afterwards that a deal had been reached, separately announcing on Truth Social that the deal was “complete” and that he was ending the U.S. naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. I hereby fully authorise the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorise the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade,” Trump wrote.

Sharif thanked Qatar for its role in the mediation effort, and also extended appreciation to Saudi Arabia and Türkiye for their contributions.

He said mediators would facilitate a series of meetings this week, with pre-implementation discussions laying the foundation for technical talks and the official signing ceremony.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister later confirmed that the text of the agreement had been finalised and would be signed on Friday, according to Iranian state media.

Qatari negotiators had earlier flown to Tehran for 17 hours of intensive negotiations to help finalise the agreement, with separate preparatory meetings to take place in Doha this week ahead of the signing.

The war began on 28 February when the U.S. and Israel launched coordinated strikes across Iran that killed several of the country’s top leadership, including its Supreme Leader.

A ceasefire brokered by Pakistan and Qatar had been in place since 7 April but remained fragile, with both sides trading strikes in recent weeks, including renewed fighting in Lebanon.
