The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State chapter, has suspended its indefinite strike action following a review of the state’s security situation.

The NUT disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement jointly signed by its chairman, Hassan Fatai, and secretary, Olukayode Salami.

The union said the decision to suspend the strike came after consultations and appeals by the state government and other stakeholders, adding that it reviewed the prevailing security situation before deciding to call off the industrial action, paving the way for teachers to return to classrooms.

The teachers had embarked on the strike in response to concerns raised over the abduction of schoolchildren in Ogbomosho in Orire Local Government Area of the state, urging the need for improved security measures in schools across the state.
