The Osun State Police Command has confirmed that two persons were killed in separate violent clashes in the Egbatedo and Owode-Igbona areas of Osogbo.
Osun state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the incidents occurred on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
According to Ojelabi, one person was killed during the clash at Egbatedo, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
He added that two suspects linked to the incident had been arrested and had provided useful information to assist investigators in tracking other persons involved.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that one person was also killed in the Owode-Igbona clash. He said no arrest had been made in connection with the incident, but officers recovered a pistol, three rounds of live ammunition and five expended cartridges from the scene.
Reacting to the incidents, Governor Ademola Adeleke condemned the killings, called for calm and urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible were apprehended and brought to justice.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor also dismissed insinuations linking the state government to the violence.
“We received with concern reports of suspected cult-related killings in Osogbo and call on security agencies to enforce the law and go after the culprits.
“The killings and the subsequent violence are condemnable.
“I urge security agencies to investigate and apprehend those involved in this dastardly act,” the governor said.
