The first gentleman of Ghana, President Mahama has expressed optimism in the Black Stars winning the 2030 World Cup.
Speaking before a group of people during an inspection at the Ho Stadium, the president made the statement.
Unlike many other Ghanaians, President Mahama shared that he was pleased with the performance of the Black Stars team in the ongoing 2026 World Cup.
The president explained that, before the World Cup had commenced, many Ghanaians didn’t have hope that the team could even exceed the group stage.
Despite the pessimism, President Mahama claims the team shocked many after they moved beyond the group stage, even though they couldn’t win.
The president believed that, if the team is maintained, the Black Stars are likely to win the next World Cup or AFCON.
He said “We also need to start preparing for the next World Cup. The Black Stars did well; nobody gave them a chance. People predicted that they would crash out at the Group stage, but they managed to get into the Round of 32”.
“I am sure that if we keep this team and we persuade the coach to continue to work with the team, by the time of the next AFCON and World Cup, we will have a team that can claim the championship in any of those two competitions,” the president added.
