Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has commenced investigation to establish circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide of founder and General Overseer of Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries pastor Etetim Udo whose corpse was found dangling with rope around his neck in the church compound at No.1B Etim Inyang Street, Oron local government area of the state.
A statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer in the state DSP Timfon John and made available to Journalists in Uyo stated that the incident occurred in the church premises as a resident in the area sent a distress call to the police claiming that he arrived the church compound and discovered a gathering of people where he was informed by the deceased children that their father had taken his life .
John said the command quickly mobilized to the scene and snapped photographs while relevant exhibits were recovered to assist in forensic examination and other investigations.
The statement read in part: “On Thursday, 23rd July, 2026, at about 8:18 a.m., the Command received a distress report from a resident who stated that upon arriving at the church premises, where he usually parks his motorcycle, he noticed an unusual gathering.
“He was subsequently informed by the deceased’s children that their father had allegedly taken his own life. Following the report, police operatives immediately mobilised to the scene
“Preliminary observations revealed that the deceased was found suspended with a twisted mosquito net rope.
“The scene was professionally processed by investigators, photographs were taken, and relevant exhibits were recovered to aid forensic examination and further investigation.”
John disclosed that the corpse was evacuated to the hospital, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed him dead.
“His remains have since been deposited at the mortuary pending the conduct of an autopsy.”
John said though preliminary findings pointed to a case of suspected suicide, the command would continue with investigation to establish circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Police Spokesperson said that the commissioner police in the state Baba Azare has assured the public that investigation would be thorough and conducted professionally without partiality.
She said the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State CP Baba Mohammed Azare has assured members of the public that the investigation will be thorough, impartial and professionally conducted.
“The Commissioner of Police also urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information or engaging in speculation capable of misleading the investigation or causing unnecessary public anxiety.”
