MAPOLY union gives management 7-day ultimatum over 35, 25% salary increments, others

The Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnics (ASUP), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Chapter, has issued a 7-day ultimatum to the institution’s management to fully implement the 35 and 25 per cent salary increments for workers of the institution, as approved by the government.

Mr Adegunle Tomisi, Chairman, ASUP of the polytechnic, said this in a communique issued on Monday, 29th April, in Abeokuta, noted that failure after which the Union would resume the suspended industrial action immediately at the expiration of the notice.

The communique was issued at the end of the Union’s Congress meeting of the association held in Moshood Abiola Polytechnic campus, Abeokuta, the state capital.

He said the Union in session deliberated on issues of importance as they concern members of the association and reviewed the responses of the Management to the legitimate demands of the Union arising from the resolution of the Congress held on 19th March 2024.

He noted that the Congress found the management’s response unsatisfactory given their non-committal to and partial fulfilment of their demands by which the management refused to treat the career progression of staff with all the seriousness it deserves.

According to Tomisi, Mapoly ASUP had demanded the domestication of the approved 35% and 25% salary increment for the staff of Mapoly, payment of a minimum of four (4) Semesters out of the six (6) outstanding Semesters Part-Time claims/allowances.

“Immediate roll-out of APER forms of 2021/2022 for processing, immediate completion and release of 2020/2021 promotion letters and accompanying appointments, as well as immediate conclusion and release of the delayed Conversion, Upgrading and Regularisation list.

“Also, immediate payment of arrears of earned allowances on the 2020 staff promotions and immediate conclusion of the 2019/2020 appointment exercise of the institution.”

The Union in its resolution reiterated its objection to the Management’s retrogressive staff career progression stance and requested the full implementation of the promotion exercise of the MAPOLY.

The Union directed the Management to immediately release its check-off dues and other deductions already made from staff monthly salaries, noting that it was disturbing the attempt by the management to tacitly undermine the potency of the Union by deliberately withholding its dues.
