Lecturers at Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), have commenced a total and indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and other unresolved issues.
The NSUK branch announced the industrial action on Monday following a branch congress where members deliberated on the outstanding issues affecting academic staff.
In a statement signed by the branch Chairperson, Zubairu Loko, the union said it had exhausted several avenues of dialogue with relevant authorities without securing satisfactory implementation of the agreement.
The union said the strike was also prompted by unresolved local issues within the university.
According to ASUU, the branch had obtained the approval of the union’s National Executive Council before commencing the industrial action.
The lecturers stressed that agreements reached between the Federal Government and ASUU must be respected and implemented, warning that further dialogue without concrete action could no longer resolve the dispute.
“Dialogue without implementation cannot continue indefinitely,” the union said.
ASUU expressed regret over the disruption the strike could cause students, parents and other stakeholders, but maintained that resolving the outstanding issues remained the responsibility of the relevant authorities.
The union called on the Federal Government, Nasarawa State Government, the university’s Governing Council and management, as well as other stakeholders, to urgently intervene and address the issues that triggered the strike.
It said a concrete resolution of the disputes was necessary to restore industrial harmony and enable academic activities to resume at the institution.
