The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has challenged the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke to account for the substantial federal allocations received since assuming office, alongside the N15 billion allegedly left behind by the immediate past administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Speaking during an interactive session at the Arise TV Town Hall Meeting in Osun State, Oyebamiji fielded questions from journalists regarding his policy roadmap and addressed key campaign issues, particularly competing claims surrounding state finances and inherited liabilities.
Providing a comparative financial breakdown, Oyebamiji noted that across 12 years of progressive governance under former Governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola, Osun State received approximately N450 billion in total allocations. By contrast, he said that under Governor Adeleke’s tenure of three and a half years, the state has received over N650 billion.
“How does N650 billion match what we see in Osun today? Worse still, as of today in Osun, 97 percent of those resources go to just two local governments. That is an aberration; actually, it is criminal,” Oyebamiji asserted.
Reiterating previous financial clarifications, the APC standard-bearer maintained that the immediate past administration left behind roughly N15 billion for the incoming government, directly contradicting claims by the incumbent administration that it inherited an empty treasury.
He urged Osun residents to look beyond political propaganda designed to obscure fiscal realities.
According to AMBO, the revenue profile available to the current administration far exceeds what previous governors managed, largely due to increased federal allocations following major macroeconomic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
However, he argued that the substantial inflow of funds has not translated into infrastructural or socioeconomic development commensurate with the state’s earnings.
“The resources available to the present administration in Osun have never been available to any governor of this state in this manner. But when you look around Osun today, there is nothing commensurate with the level of resources available to the present government,” Oyebamiji stated.
He praised President Tinubu for implementing what he described as bold economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies, which he said had increased allocations to all three tiers of government.
He stressed that such expanded revenue should be reflected in improved infrastructure, enhanced social services and broader economic opportunities for citizens.
Outlining his agenda if elected, Oyebamiji pledged to anchor his administration on fiscal discipline, transparency and equitable resource distribution.
He promised to foster an enabling business environment, create meaningful opportunities for young people, prioritise workers’ welfare and ensure balanced development across communities in the state.
The town hall meeting featured a panel of media personalities, including Dr Reuben Abati, Dr Lasisi Olagunju, Dr Festus Adedayo and Adesuwa Omoruan, providing Oyebamiji with a platform to present his vision for fiscal governance and public accountability ahead of the governorship election.
