Ajayi Scores As Hull Stun Man U 2-0 In Premier League

Hull City began their life back in the Premier League with a famous 2-0 win at home to Manchester United, thanks to an opening goal from Nigerian defender, Semi Ajayi.

Hull City last played in the Premier League during the 2016-17 season, before officially returning to the top flight for the 2026-27 season after winning the Championship play-off.

The last time Hull defeated their storied opponents was in the old First Division back in 1974.

United had tried to reinforce their squad by bringing in Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, while Carlos Baleba’s medical is expected to take place this weekend after a fee that could rise to £70m was agreed with Brighton on Friday.

On their part, the Tigers have completed 11 new signings so far and have broken their own transfer record twice in the process.

The afternoon went well for Hull, who matched United toe to toe and gave them no space, deservedly taking the lead when Ajayi smashed the ball into the net in the 17th minute after a goalmouth melee which United players failed to clear.

The Tigers, through Noah Mendy, scored again in the 38th minute from a set piece that United failed to deal with, and went into half-time two goals up.

Coach Michael Carrick tried to freshen things up by introducing Marcus Rashford, whose loan move was not made permanent by Barcelona, for Patrick Dorgu before the second half commenced, but there was little cheer for the Red Devils.

The coach made four other changes, but Hull held on for the famous win, which would serve as an inspiration to beat the drop zone after their historic return to the top flight.
