A worrying video circulating on social media that has sparked intense reactions after a woman was filmed taking multiple pills she claimed were capable of making a person’s skin significantly lighter within a short period.
In the now-viral video, the woman, whose complexion appeared extremely light, was seen taking 12 of the pills while promoting the product to other women.
She claimed that the pills could help dark-skinned people achieve a completely white complexion in less than a week.
While advertising the product, the woman encouraged other ladies who wanted lighter skin to patronise the pills, presenting them as an option for people seeking to change their complexion.
The video has, however, attracted strong criticism from social media users, with several expressing concern about the possible health risks associated with taking large quantities of skin-whitening products.
One social media user, @Primax2u, questioned what could happen to the woman’s organs if she continued using such products.
“Hope when the organ give up she won’t come online to beg for donations. Make the organs kukuma rest. Because what’s all these, all for a painted body while decaying internally on the long run.”
Another user, @Cheemeta, claimed that the woman had a longstanding interest in skin-whitening products and alleged that she frequently recommends supplements for achieving a lighter complexion.
“This lady in particular dey like abuse medicine well. Any small thing, she go recommend supplements for fair skin. Na person wey I know well well. She’s obsessed with skin whitening. She dey even bleach her kids too.”
Meanwhile, @Alexia questioned the social pressure surrounding skin complexion and described the woman’s actions as a possible psychological concern.
“This is a psychological problem because have ever seen Caucasian or light skinned people consume or use cosmetics to make them darker?”
The video has reignited discussions about the growing promotion and use of skin-whitening products, particularly those marketed as pills or supplements.
Health professionals have previously warned that products marketed for rapid skin-lightening may contain ingredients that can pose health risks, depending on their composition, dosage and method of use.
