Court dismisses forgery case against PDP ward executives in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State High Court sitting in Obiozara, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday dismissed a forgery and impersonation case against members of a Ward Executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

The Executive Committee of Oguduokwor Ward in Onicha local government area had in October 2024 expelled the PDP National Vice Chairman, South-East, Ali Odefa.

After his expulsion, Odefa allegedly connived with some police operatives in the state and arrested Sunday Idika, Njoku Nwagu, and Obinna Chukwu, all PDP officials.

The party’s former acting Chairman in the state, Dr. Augustine Nwazunku, was also arrested by the police.

Nwazunku was subsequently arraigned in court for forgery, impersonation, and membership of a secret cult group.

However, Justice G. N. Ugbala dismissed the case on Wednesday.

Ugbala decried the inability of Odefa and the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) to diligently prosecute the matter.

The PDP Lead Counsel, Mr. Mudi Erhenede, who moved the motion for the dismissal of the case, said it was obvious that there was no evidence to back up the accusations leveled against the party officials.

“Thank God our motion was granted by Ugbala and the case had been struck out and the four defendants have been discharged,” Erhenede stated.
