The State House of Assembly has confirmed Rt. Hon. George O’benEtchi as the Chairman of the Cross River Forestry Commission.
The unanimous decision follows his appointment by Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Otu on September 21, 2023.
In a session that received widespread acceptance for O’benEtchi from lawmakers, having been a two-term member of the Assembly, confirmation received widespread acclaim from members of the House of Assembly, the member representing Akamkpa II, Hon. Linus Etim, praised him as a man with an open heart who genuinely cares about the welfare of the people.
Etim lauded Governor Otu’s choice of O’ben-Echi, expressing confidence that the Forestry Commission will undergo a remarkable transformation under the Akamkpa-born former Lawmakers’ leadership.

Also speaking, Hon. Martin Achadu, who represents Yala II, hailed the appointment, describing O’ben-Etchi as a perfect fit for the role. Achadu highlighted O’benEtchi’s character and past achievements, suggesting that he is an invaluable asset to Cross River State.
In the same vein, Hon. Francis Ogban, representing Biase, characterised the newly confirmed O’benEtchi as a focused individual with a determination to revamp the Forestry Commission.
