C’River Gov’t Fixes Time For Refuse Disposal, Bans Scavengers In Calabar

The Government of Cross River State has fixed time for the daily disposal of refuse by residents of Calabar.

CONVERSEER learned from a public announcement signed by Barr. Ekpenyong Akiba, SA General Duties to Governor Bassey Otu on Friday, October 27, 2023, that the time for refuse disposal is between 6pm to 10pm daily.

It stated that defaulters would be apprehended and prosecuted.

Akiba also said the government has banned refuse scavengers as their activities pose a security threat to the Calabar metropolis.

“This is to reiterate the State Government’s earlier announcement on regulations guiding refuse disposal within the Calabar metropolis.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the hours of 6pm to 10pm every day are slated for refuse disposal.

“Please note that enforcement agents will be stationed at strategic refuse points to apprehend and prosecute defaulters.

“Similarly, the government has put a total ban on all refuse scavengers, as their activities pose serious security concerns for citizens.

“Those responsible are to desist forthwith as security agents have been mandated to arrest and prosecute perpetrators,” the public announcement read.
