The Lawmaker representing Yakurr I State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Cyril James Omini, on Friday, disbursed ₦15 million to 150 women in his constituency for their small-scale businesses.

While disbursing the cash at the ceremony held at Council Guest House, Ugep, Omini said the empowerment of women in his constituency is to commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day and to demonstrate his unwavering commitment to change the socioeconomic status of women of his constituency amid the trending global economic challenges.

Hon. Omini who doubles as Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, underscores the importance of creating a conducive environment for women to thrive and succeed in their chosen field of endeavour, in line with the ‘People First’ mantra of Cross River State Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, noting that empowerment of women was vital in addressing social, economic and political challenge while making them to be self-reliant.

Continuing, Hon. Omini informed that the choice of empowering 150 women and other members of his constituency was in fulfilment of some of his campaign promises, to empower the youth and women to alleviate better and better the lot of the people.

The lawmaker, while urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment gesture and offer of business training and mentorship, hailed his constituents for their unalloyed support. He assured them of his commitment and readiness to provide meaningful and effective representation.

Recall that the member before his election and assumption of office some months ago has created a positive impact on lives and families with donations of cash as business and educational support, donations of cars, motorcycles, and upsetting hospital bills for the sick as well as extending financial aid to the less privileged, aged and needy members of his constituency and beyond.

Beneficiaries of the lawmaker’s empowerment programme, including Rosemary Lawrence Eko, Mrs Jenny Iwara Utre, and Mrs Nkiru Pius Egbe, expressed gratitude for Hon. Cyril Omini’s unique leadership approach, generous actions, and unwavering efforts to empower youth, women, and men while enhancing the standard of living for his constituents.

They thanked him for prioritising the welfare of his people in line with Governor Otu’s ‘People First’ Mantra and assured the lawmaker of their steadfast support both now and in the future.

Meanwhile, distinguished individuals from the constituency and beyond, such as the Ex-Presidential Aide Okoi Obono-Obla, former Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development in the State, Prof. John Inyang, Mr Essien Emmanuel Okoi, and Hon. Eteng Obol, among others, have continued to praise the lawmaker for his patriotism, unwavering dedication to service, humanitarian efforts, as well as his qualitative leadership and innovative representation, a rarity since 1999.
