Rt. Hon. Orok Otu Duke

Calabar, Cross River State – As the November 2 local government elections approach in Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, the state’s NDDC Representative, has called on Cross Riverians to participate actively by voting for their preferred candidates.

Speaking with journalists, Duke emphasised the importance of these elections as a crucial opportunity to select leaders who will champion grassroots development and effective governance.

“The wards and local governments are the strata of government closest to the grassroots and represent the foundation of governance, so the need to elect credible leaders at that level cannot be overemphasised,” Duke stated, urging voters to consider the impact of their choices on the future of local governance.

Addressing the role of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC), Duke encouraged citizens to trust the commission’s commitment to a transparent process.

He expressed confidence in CROSIEC’s pledge to ensure a free, fair, and credible election, urging Cross Riverians to vote peacefully and adhere to all guidelines to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

“While going out on Saturday to exercise your franchise, ensure to conduct yourself peacefully, adhere to all rules and directives as directed by the umpire, and refrain from any form of electoral malpractice and violence,” Duke advised.

The upcoming election will fill positions for chairpersons and councillors across 18 local government councils and 196 wards within the state.
