By Joe Udo

The International Worship Centre in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital has faced criticisms very recently after photos emerged online. But, are the criticisms worth it?

The International Worship Centre was built by the immediate past governor of the state, Mr Udom Emmanuel – an edifice that supersedes everyone’s expectations.

“How is this going to improve the livelihood of Akwa Ibomites?” many critics asked.

Well, below, Mr Edikan is able to tell us the five economic benefits of the centre.

1. Tourism and Hospitality Impact: An International Worship Centre can attract visitors from various countries, contributing to local tourism and hospitality industries through increased demand for accommodations, dining, and other services.

2. Job Creation: The establishment and operation of an International Worship Centre can lead to job creation, not only within the centre itself but also in related sectors such as event management, security, maintenance, and support services.

3. Cultural Exchanges and Business Opportunities: The congregation’s diverse backgrounds may result in cultural exchanges and business connections, fostering international trade and partnerships among members and their respective communities.

4. Real Estate Development: The presence of an International Worship Centre can drive real estate development in the surrounding area, as businesses and residents may be attracted to the cultural diversity and sense of community associated with the centre.

5. Community Outreach and Social Programmes: Economic benefits can arise from community outreach programs initiated by the International Worship Centre, addressing local social issues and contributing to the overall well-being of the community, which can have positive economic ripple effects.
