Education Empowerment: Yakurr 1 Lawmaker Invests ₦10M in JAMB Applicants

YAKURR – Hon. Cyril Omini, the representative for Yakurr 1 State Constituency and Chair of the Finance and Appropriation Committee in the Cross River State House of Assembly, has allocated ₦10 million to cover application and registration expenses for prospective candidates in his constituency ahead of the 2025 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations.

The funding initiative, which includes the provision of application forms along with financial support to cover travel and logistics expenses, is aimed at ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent young people from accessing higher education.

“Education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives and communities. My goal is to ensure that every young person in my constituency has the opportunity to further their education and achieve their dreams without financial barriers,” Hon. Omini said.

The ₦10 million fund is intended to ease the burden of costs associated with the exam process by covering expenses for travel to examination and thumbprinting centers both within the state and beyond.

The initiative has been warmly received by local stakeholders who view it as a significant investment in the future of the community.

Mrs Rita Oden, the Special Adviser to the Chairman of Yakurr LGA on Women Affairs, commended the lawmaker’s ongoing commitment to educational development.

“I am personally very happy because this is not the first time he is doing this. It takes a large heart to give back to your people, and Hon. Cyril is doing it wonderfully well,” she said. “You can see the excitement on the faces of these young people, and many of them are even from outside his constituency.”

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support. Miss Joy Edet, one of the recipients, said, “This initiative has given me the chance to sit for JAMB without worrying about the cost. I sincerely appreciate Hon. Omini for his support and encouragement.”

Similarly, Ubi Onun described the measure as one of the most impactful initiatives he had witnessed in Yakurr Constituency 1, adding, “I want to say a very big thank you to Hon. Cyril Omini. He has done very well, and I pray that God continues to bless him.”

Mrs Grace Usani, who attended the event on behalf of her daughter, also expressed her appreciation, stating that experiencing the lawmaker’s support firsthand felt like a dream. “I feel so glad that we have somebody like Hon. Cyril Omini helping people out. I have heard about his empowerment programs, but seeing it in action is truly inspiring,” she said.

The ₦10 million allocation underscores Hon. Cyril Omini’s commitment to breaking down financial barriers to education and fostering a future where every young person can pursue their academic aspirations without hindrance.

Converseer reports that Hon. Omini has been carrying out the initiative even before becoming a Lawmaker.
