Exclusive: Celtic to offer Jamie Vardy deal as striker eyes Brendan Rodgers reunion

GLASGOW (CONVERSEER) – Celtic are ready to offer Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy a deal, SportsBoom can reveal.

The Hoops were rumoured to be interesting in signing 38-year-old Vardy, whose contract expires next month at the King Power Stadium.

And the former England international is understood to be keen to linking up with former Foxes’ boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic Park having previously enjoyed working with the Northern Irishman.

Celtic are flying this season and claimed an impressive fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title last month.

The Hoops are now on course for an historic sixth domestic treble in nine seasons if they can beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final next Sunday (24 May).

Rodgers’ dominant side hammered St Johnstone 5-0 in the semi-finals and continue to dominate Scottish football.

Vardy, who has played 499 games for Leicester and bagged an impressive 199 goals during a stellar career, is seen as the perfect fit to come in and add some more firepower to Rodgers’ hungry squad.

The veteran striker is believed to be ready for a new challenge and would prefer a move away from the Premier League, even though a number of top-flight clubs are understood to be monitoring his next move.

GROWING INTEREST

Promoted Wrexham have also expressed an interest in the experienced marksman’s services having just won promotion to the Championship and hungry to achieve Premier League promotion with Hollywood-backers funding their planned rise to the top.

Vardy played under Rodgers when he was in charge of the Foxes from February 2019 to April 2023, a period in which the club reached the UEFA Europa Conference League semi-finals – the club’s first-ever European semi-final – and also a famous 2021 FA Cup title.

Former Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel is currently loving life in Scotland with Celtic, as is former Foxes’ ace Jeffrey Schlupp, two players Vardy is good friends with.

And a move to Scotland could prove to be the perfect fit, especially as Vardy is keen not to anger Leicester fans who see him as a hero for all of his herculean efforts over the years.

Last season he bagged 20 goals to guide the Foxes back to the Premier League, but relegation this season has left the question whether he wants another season in the second tier in the twilight of his career.
