EXCLUSIVE: Police Arrest Nigerian Soldier, One Other Over Alleged Robbery, Car Theft

The duo was later arrested by policemen while transporting the stolen car to the South-South part of the country.

The police have arrested a Nigerian soldier for alleged carjacking and armed robbery.

Sources told SaharaReporters that the soldier connived with a civilian to steal a Toyota Hilux vehicle in Lagos.

The duo was later arrested by policemen while transporting the stolen car to the South-South part of the country.

When confronted, SaharaReporters learned that the soldier, attached to Operation Delta Safe in Bayelsa, identified himself to the police as a military officer in an attempt to make away with the vehicle.

“The civilian and the soldier stole the Hilux in Lagos. The soldier then followed him for clearance at checkpoints on the highway. The soldier is serving with Operations Delta Safe Bayelsa. They wanted to sell the Hilux and were tracked by the police,” the source said.

This comes just weeks after a soldier was arrested by police for alleged armed robbery and attempted murder, following the severing of a limb belonging to a Minna-based businessman, Abdulrahman Salihu.

Sadiq Sani, a Nigerian Army private, reportedly attacked Mr Salihu on Eid-el-Fitr day at the businessman’s clothing shop, Premium Times reported.

Eyewitnesses said the soldier approached the shop to purchase a set of shirts and requested the shop owner’s bank account details to transfer the money.

When the trader reportedly refused to release the items until the payment was confirmed, the suspect allegedly brought out a knife and stabbed Mr Salihu multiple times, severing one of his arms before fleeing the scene.
