Fire Outbreak: Kada Cinema still operational – MD Tourism

By Frank Ulom

The Managing Director of the Cross River Tourism Bureau, Prince Ojoi Ekpenyong has said the Kada Cinema located at Marina Resort, Calabar, is still operational.

Ekpenyong stated this on Sunday (18 Feb.), following the fire outbreak that gutted part of the cinema on Saturday (17 Feb.) night.

The Tourism Bureau MD said the cinema has not been completely burnt down as purported on social media.

“Our attention has been drawn to news making the rounds in some Social Media platforms purporting that the Kada Cinemas Calabar has been completely burnt down following a fire outbreak in one of its studios.

“There was a fire outbreak in one of the studios due to electrical surge on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at about 10:20 pm.

“The fire incident was contained in Studio 4 where the flames broke out and did not impact other areas.

“We, therefore, wish to put it on record that the Kada Cinemas is NOT BURNT DOWN. All other sections: The VIP, Studios 1, 2 and 3 are not affected and are intact.

“Businesses at the complex including the Bistro, and ticketing areas are fully functional. However, once cleaning is completed, hopefully, later on, the cinema will be opened to movie lovers and fun seekers within the week.

“We call on the public to disregard the misinformation going on in Social Media regarding Kada Cinemas.

“We remain committed to serving you the best of entertainment and relaxation and seek your support and understanding in the present circumstances.

“The Management is working with the relevant agencies to determine what led to the fire incident, while we commend the EPZ firefighters for their prompt intervention,” Prince Ekpenyong said.
