Gambia Voices Worries Regarding Freeze on USAID Funding

The freeze of USAID funding under the Trump administration has sparked concerns in Gambia, particularly regarding its transitional justice efforts.

The Special Adviser to the Ministry of Justice has warned that the funding halt could significantly disrupt the implementation of key recommendations made by the Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations Commission (TRRC).

The TRRC, established to address past human rights violations, relies heavily on international support to carry out reparations and reconciliation programs.

With USAID funding suspended, concerns are mounting over the government’s ability to deliver justice and support victims of past abuses.
