Gov Otu Pledges ₦5bn to Healthcare, Unveils 196 Laptops for Statewide Use

Calabar, Nigeria – The Cross River State government has taken a bold step to strengthen its healthcare system with the unveiling of 196 laptops dedicated to enhancing healthcare delivery across the state’s 196 political wards.

The initiative aims to revolutionise health service provision and ensure comprehensive coverage for all residents.

Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Asuk, lauded the state government’s continuous commitment to healthcare development.

He highlighted the critical role these digital tools will play in streamlining health services and improving efficiency throughout the region.

Dr Paul Odi, Project Manager for the Cross River City IMPACT PROJECT, noted that the laptops would significantly enhance health record management and monitoring.

He emphasised their potential to boost immunisation efforts and ensure healthcare accessibility, especially in remote areas.

Similarly, Dr Vivian Mesembe, Director-General of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, underlined the project’s focus on reducing maternal and child mortality rates.

She stated that the laptops would provide critical support for underserved communities, advancing overall healthcare delivery.

Governor Prince Bassey Otu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving healthcare by pledging a ₦5 billion budgetary boost for upgrading primary healthcare facilities.

He also announced plans to expand health insurance coverage, urging all stakeholders to collaborate in creating equitable access to quality healthcare for residents.

This initiative represents a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to build a robust and inclusive healthcare system, addressing long-standing challenges in service delivery.
