The Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu has appointed 23 people into different parastatals in the last couple of weeks.
CONVERSEER learned that the first set of appointments was on October 15, 2023, where the governor appointed 10 into the Cross River State Audit Commission and one into the Office of the Surveyor General.
According to a statement by Emmanuel Ogbeche, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Otu approved the composition of the Cross River State Audit Service Commission pursuant to the Cross River State Audit Law 2021, Part V Section 82 Subsection 1-5.
Those appointed to the Commission are Mr Chris Etim Nyong as Chairman, Sir Charles Joseph Arako as Deputy Chairman, Mr Bartholomew Amake as Member and Mr Bassey Ekanem as Member.
Others are Barrister Ikona Ikoi as Member, Mr Emmanuel Bassey Effiom as Member, Mr Emmanuel Amama Iyango as Member, Mr Bassey A. Eko as Member, Auditor-General for State as Ex-officio Member and Auditor-General for Local Government as Ex-officio Member.
Also approved is the appointment of Surveyor Patrick Edet Bassey as Acting Surveyor-General of the State for a probationary period of six months, subject to confirmation.
“All appointments are with effect from October 3, 2023”, the statement read in part.

Similarly, the Governor approved the appointment of 12 people into the Governing Councils in the College of Nursing Sciences in Calabar and Obudu.
Their appointments were contained in a press release signed by Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, Secretary to the State Government (SSG) on October 20, 2023.
The appointments which take immediate effect were divided into two.
(i). College of Nursing Sciences, Calabar
Those appointed are Dr (Mrs) Josephine Fidelis Ogana, Barr. (Mrs) Elizabeth Esien Oku, Dr (Mrs) Mary Manyo Ojong, Mrs Alice Adung Akwaji, Dr (Pharm) Eyo Eyo Nsa and Mrs Ekanem Philip Ekpo.
(ii). College of Nursing Sciences, Obudu
Those appointed are Elder (Dr) Ita Ekpeme, Mr Paul Njagu, Mrs Angela Paul Oko, Mrs Catherine Ella, Mrs Elizabeth Ugbong and Utsu Patrick Ishioja.
