Governor Otu Attends Centenary Birthday Thanksgiving Service for Evangelist Blessing Bassey Duke

Calabar, Cross River State – Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State joined the family of the late Elder Etubom Esu Bassey-Duke (MON) and other dignitaries in a special thanksgiving service celebrating the centenary birthday of their matriarch and leader, Evangelist Blessing Bassey-Duke, MFR.

The interdenominational service, held at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Hope Waddell Cathedral in Calabar, attracted numerous friends, captains of industry, and top government officials, including the State Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Akon Ikpeme, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, and the Head of Personal Staff to the Deputy Governor, Dr Chris Ojikpong.

Mama Bassey-Duke is the mother of Amb. Nkoyo Esu Toyo, the former Nigerian Ambassador to Ethiopia and Member representing Odukpani/Calabar Municipality in the Federal House of Representatives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Otu represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, praised Evangelist Bassey-Duke for her impactful life, emphasising that honouring parents while they are still with us can enrich their lives and benefit society.

Odey congratulated the celebrant on reaching her 100th birthday and thanked her for her service to God and humanity, calling on Cross Riverians to emulate her dedication, commitment, and hard work in all their endeavours.

In his homily, the Guest preacher, Prophet Akt Joshua of Revival Ministries in Johannesburg, South Africa, pointed out that the celebrant’s 100 years is a testament to God’s protection and faithfulness. He encouraged guests to live with purpose and gratitude, reminding them that “If you live well, you will end well.”

In her vote of thanks, one of Evangelist Bassey-Duke’s grandchildren expressed gratitude to all who attended, acknowledging the sacrifices they made to join the family in celebrating this remarkable milestone.

The highlight of the ceremony was a special prayer session dedicated to the celebrant, her family, Cross River State, and Nigeria. This was followed by the presentation of the Governor’s gift to the celebrant by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar.
