Liam Payne's Girlfriend Kate Cassidy Reflects on His Last Days in Argentina

Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, has opened up in her first interview since the singer’s tragic death in October.

In an emotional conversation with The Sun, published on Wednesday, February 5, Cassidy tearfully admitted, “If I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.” She had departed Argentina just four days before Payne tragically fell to his death, with the judge handling the investigation revealing that Payne had tried to exit his hotel via a third-floor balcony while intoxicated.

Cassidy explained that the couple had originally planned to stay in Argentina for just a week, as they had responsibilities, including their dog. “I never would have thought this event would have occurred,” she said. “I never would have thought that this would have happened.” She added that Payne had been in a “good headspace” when she left but acknowledged that addiction can be unpredictable.

Reflecting on their relationship, Cassidy shared that she had stuck by Payne “through thick and thin,” and believed in the optimism of love, hoping that everything would work out in the end. However, the news of Payne’s death came as a shock. She was home alone when she first heard the news and described her reaction as a blur, hoping it was a lie. “I had a bad feeling in my gut… When I officially found the news to be true, I just fully was numb.”

Cassidy said the weight of Payne’s death finally hit her when she visited their new home, which she had started decorating for Halloween. She now thinks of him “every second of every day” and has been seeking support from a grief counselor since his passing.

Following the interview, Cassidy shared a statement on Instagram, calling the last few months “heartbreaking” and describing Payne as “the love of my life.” She also explained that she agreed to the interview at the request of his fans who sought clarity.

Almost three weeks after Payne’s funeral, Cassidy paid tribute to him with a heartfelt social media post, sharing a 90-second TikTok video of their moments together, including blowing kisses, watching fireworks, and playfully fighting over snacks. The video was accompanied by the caption “I love you.”

Cassidy had previously shared a tribute to Payne on Instagram, expressing, “Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned. You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel.”

Payne tragically passed away on October 16. The judge in the case charged his friend, Roger Nores, and two hotel workers with involuntary manslaughter, while two others were jailed for allegedly selling Payne drugs. A toxicology report revealed that Payne had alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant in his system at the time of his fall.
