NASA to Send 10 Cutting-Edge Scientific Instruments to the Moon

American space agency NASA has launched the Blue Ghost Mission 1, which will deploy 10 advanced scientific instruments to the moon in groundbreaking efforts to enhance lunar exploration.

The deployment of the advanced scientific instruments will aim to test technologies for regolith collection, thermal mapping, navigation, and radiation-resistant computing.

The mission will also feature a suite of scientific investigations and technology demonstrations aboard a Firefly Aerospace spacecraft, which aims to test new technologies on the Moon’s surface.

The information gathered during the mission may potentially help people on Earth by shedding light on how space weather and other cosmic forces affect our world.

“NASA leads the world in space exploration, and American companies are a critical part of bringing humanity back to the Moon,” said Nicola Fox, associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters in Washington.

“We learned many lessons during the Apollo Era that informed the technological and science demonstrations aboard Firefly’s Blue Ghost Mission 1—ensuring the safety and health of our future science instruments, spacecraft, and, most importantly, our astronauts on the lunar surface. I am excited to see the incredible science and technological data Firefly’s Blue Ghost Mission 1 will deliver in the days to come.”
