Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted multiple international drug shipments bound for the United States, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The agency thwarted attempts by drug trafficking organizations (DTOs) to smuggle large consignments through logistics firms and Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
According to NDLEA officials, the seized contraband included cocaine, tramadol, loud, molly, and other illicit substances, concealed inside prayer beads, board game packs, female clothing, and locally made shoe soles.
Two suspects, 43-year-old businesswoman Jakpor Egware May and 60-year-old Yahaya Fatai Ayinla, were arrested at MMIA in connection with the attempted smuggling. Other shipments containing 230 grams of cocaine were also intercepted while en route to Saudi Arabia, Poland, and the UAE between March 10 and 12.
The agency’s operations extended beyond Lagos, leading to multiple arrests in Kano, Kaduna, Kwara, Taraba, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The NDLEA has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts against illegal drug trafficking and dismantling criminal networks involved in the illicit drug trade.
