Nigeria and Tanzania are advancing discussions on launching direct flights between their capitals, Abuja and Dar es Salaam, as part of a broader effort to enhance air connectivity and strengthen economic, tourism, and cultural ties between the two countries.
The initiative emerged following a high-level meeting in Abuja between Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the Head of Chancellery of the Tanzanian High Commission, Judica Nagunwa.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Minister’s Special Adviser, Tunde Moshood, the discussions centered on a formal request by Air Tanzania to establish direct air routes with Nigeria.
Ms. Nagunwa emphasized her country’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations, highlighting that direct flights would significantly boost trade, tourism, cultural exchange, and people-to-people connections.
Minister Keyamo welcomed the proposal and assured that the Nigerian government, under the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Tinubu, is committed to strengthening continental air links. He pledged that the Ministry would support the necessary regulatory and diplomatic processes in line with existing bilateral agreements.
Both parties agreed to accelerate consultations and technical assessments to secure the required approvals and operational framework for the launch of the direct flight service.
